SaunaCostUnofficial cost math

Sauna kWh per session

Cost is just kWh × your rate. This page isolates the energy term so you can check a meter or a spec sheet without mixing in dollars first.

The energy formula

  1. kW = watts ÷ 1,000
  2. hours = minutes ÷ 60
  3. kWh per session = kW × (session hours + heat-up hours). Heat-up hours are 0 unless the heat-up toggle is on.
  • 1,200 W × 30 min

    1.2 × 0.5 = 0.60 kWh

  • 1,800 W × 30 min

    1.8 × 0.5 = 0.90 kWh

  • 6 kW × 45 min + 30 min

    6 × 1.25 = 7.50 kWh

Inputs

Use your rating plate and bill rate. Presets are typical nameplates, not a brand recommendation.

Sauna type

Traditional uses steam / electric-heater presets at 4.5–8 kW. Infrared uses cabin panel watts.

Off: only session minutes are billed. Traditional rooms often need 20–40 minutes of heat-up.

Optional: purchase amortization

Spreads a purchase price across years or a lifetime session count. Not financing or resale.
